Install on cPanel, step by step
From the downloaded ZIP to a working dashboard.
Before you start
Have your cPanel login ready. Decide on an address for Chatumi, for example chat.yourcompany.com.
1. Create the subdomain
- In cPanel open Domains and choose Create A New Domain.
- Type chat.yourcompany.com.
- Set the document root to chat.yourcompany.com/public (the public folder inside the app).
- Save.
2. Make a database
- Open MySQL Database Wizard.
- Create a database, for example yourname_chatumi.
- Create a user with a long password and give it All Privileges.
- Write down the database name, user and password.
3. Upload the files
- Open File Manager and go to the chat.yourcompany.com folder.
- Upload Chatumi-cPanel-fresh.zip and choose Extract.
- Move everything from the chatumi folder up one level so the public folder sits directly inside chat.yourcompany.com.
4. Choose PHP 8.3
Open Select PHP Version (or MultiPHP Manager), pick PHP 8.3 for the subdomain and make sure these extensions are ticked: pdo_mysql, mbstring, openssl, curl, zip, fileinfo, intl.
5. Turn on SSL
Open SSL/TLS Status and run AutoSSL for the new subdomain. Wait until it shows a green padlock.
6. Run the installer
- Visit https://chat.yourcompany.com/install.
- Enter the database details from step 2.
- Create your own administrator account.
- The installer checks everything and locks itself when done.
7. Add the scheduled task
- In cPanel open Cron Jobs.
- Choose Once Per Minute.
- Command: /usr/local/bin/php /home/YOURUSER/chat.yourcompany.com/artisan schedule:run >> /dev/null 2>&1
- Replace YOURUSER with your cPanel username. Your host may use a different PHP path; their help pages list it.
8. Set up email
Open Email Accounts in cPanel and create noreply@yourcompany.com. Put its server, port 465, user and password into the MAIL_ lines of the .env file. Without this, password resets and alerts cannot be sent.
